We’re excited to announce the return of We Paddle Month this June – an annual, nationwide celebration of paddling across Canada, proudly delivered in partnership with Canoe Kayak Canada and Paddle Canada!
This year, we’re proud to welcome Paddle Canada as a co-presenting partner of We Paddle Month, uniting paddling communities in a shared celebration across Canada.
Building on the momentum of last year, this month-long celebration highlights the full spectrum of paddling, from recreational experiences to competitive pathways, while celebrating the sport’s deep cultural roots, including its significance within Indigenous communities. Through events, storytelling, and community-driven programming, We Paddle Month encourages more people to connect with nature, embrace active lifestyles, and experience the joy of paddling.
We invite everyone—whether you’re a club member or not—to get involved and celebrate the joy of paddling this June!
We Paddle Month is an annual celebration aimed at growing and promoting the sport of paddling across Canada. The initiative focuses on making paddling more accessible and inclusive, encouraging people of all backgrounds to try the sport, whether for recreation or competition. Through this month-long celebration, we hope to inspire people to get outdoors, enjoy Canada’s beautiful landscapes, and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle. We Paddle Month also honors paddling’s deep-rooted history in Canadian and Indigenous culture, while fostering community engagement through clubs and organizations. By sharing experiences, promoting events, and encouraging participation, we aim to make paddling a more recognized and celebrated sport for all Canadians.
Share Your Paddling Photos: Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a first-timer, we encourage everyone across Canada to share their paddling experiences on social media. Tag CKC (social tags found below in the Resources section) and use hashtags like #WePaddle, #WePaddleMonth, #JuneIsForPaddling, #NationalPaddleMonth, and #PaddlesUp to join the celebration.
Post-Event Participation: After your paddling adventures, help us track participation by sharing how many people took part in events at your club or organization. This helps us build a stronger community around the sport and gather feedback for next year’s events.
Supporting Clubs and Organizations: We invite clubs to consider We Paddle Month when planning events and activities this year and for years to come. CKC will post their events on our website and promote them via our newsletter and social media during the month of June. Please fill out an intake form so we can encourage the community to come to your events!
Community and Growth: We aim to expand the reach of the sport and introduce paddling to the wider public. Our goal is to encourage more people to get involved, whether they’re trying it for the first time or returning to the sport after a break. We also want to engage clubs and organizations across the country to help us grow the community.
Promotion: We want WePaddle Month to become a well-known, annual celebration of paddling. By spreading the word through social media and events, we can make this month a highlight on the paddling calendar and inspire people to get outdoors and paddle.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): It’s crucial that paddling becomes more inclusive. We are dedicated to making this sport more accessible to all Canadians, regardless of background, ability, or experience. We aim to highlight paddling as both a recreational and competitive pursuit, welcoming participants of all ages and skill levels.
Health and Wellness: Paddling is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. By encouraging more people to get out on the water, we promote healthier, more active lifestyles and a deeper appreciation for Canada’s natural beauty.
History and Canadiana: Paddling is deeply rooted in Canada’s history and Indigenous cultures. We want to honour and celebrate this heritage, recognizing that this sport is not only a part of our past but continues to play an important role in shaping our present and future.
